Title: add a VENDOR DISCUSSION area and a *FOR TRADE* area on dicussion boards
Post by: wumg00 on December 04, 2011, 03:23 am
I think it would be a great idea to have an area where vendors can exchange ideas, problems, talk prices, etc on the discussion forum.
also, I get lots of requests from people (mostly other vendors) who want to trade some of what they have for some of what I have. anyone else interested in opening a "for trade" section on the message boards? I think both these would be good additions to the community!

also, this has nothing to do with the rest of my post but, i really am growing to love the SR community and wish I could do more to participate and make it better or even just help out so if there is anything i can do, plz mods send me a pm and I am willing to help and add to our community any way i can!!!!! 8)

Great idea.

I would even like a trade option on SR. Maybe a 'hidden' section on SR for sellers only to trade goods.

Either way thanks for throwing out some fresh ideas.

rock on

That could be put on the wiki....since every vendor can/should make their own page. there i a link where you can discuss about that topic.. actually quite cool...

I don't know if you'all remember, but one of our early threads, that got a lot of attention was on vendors having a private area of their own, and me--and many other buyers--were opposed.  We want it all out here in the open, where we can participate too.  (Since the 'private' aspect came up in one of these posts, I figured I'd mention it again.)

Secondly, there's another site that many of us who like opiates have visited, and a constant complaint is how *many* forums they have, as newbies are always getting sent to the correct forum...becomes kind of a pain after a while.  Adding forums  seems like 'a really good idea!' at one point, just sort of add to the confusion after a while.   Adding them is easy, removing them is a pain.  Less is more.

I'd just like to point out one of the many reasons not to give sellers a private forum: it would allow sellers to form cartels and raise prices more easily.

I'd give a private forum six hours, tops, until the first quotes of posts leaked out.

A client is  pissed enough at a vendor to then go buy their own vendors account, just to fuck with the vendor?

200 vendors and no one would leak a post by a competitor that out of context makes him sound bad?

As Cardinal De Richelieu is claimed to have said, "If you give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest of men, I will find something in them which will hang him."

So there is no way they'd remain private, and there is no way that what would leak out wouldn't cause a whole new class of shitstorm drama on the forums.

What I would suggest is a separate forum, viewable by anyone at all, but only vendors can post in it. They can discuss matters without interference from non-vendors, but not free from scrutiny.

A sub-forum or thread where prospective vendors could post to ask questions ABOUT VENDING only, and not for clients to raise issues and strictly moderated to stay on topic.

Is it perfect?

Nope, but so far I see it as the most workable solution.

Throw in a couple of unicorns and maybe a rainbow or two, add a little stock and simmer for a while, and baby you got yourself a stew going there!

Cartels... give me a break. Just make the forum public to read and private to post. It'd be like concentrated high quality content. Why not?

Exactly.

The signal to noise ratio would be high as long as you limit posting to subjects that concern vendors, period. Maybe those wishing to become vendors could get probationary status and ability to post, until they either get a vendors account and get full status, or fuck up posting crap and get their status revoked.

You don't really see animosity between vendors here anyways, so I can't even see it requiring much in the way of moderation, if at all.

Any attempts a private or secret forum are bound for inevitable failure, so let's agree upon a viable option to promote.

I think a trade function would be totally awesome!
